When you return an item, your Amazon refund amount and refund method may vary. Your refund and how your refund is issued may differ based on the condition of the item, how long you've had the item, and how the item was purchased.

Refund types

When and how a refund is processed depends on the refund type:

  • Refund after return: After returning your item, it may take up to 14 days for us to receive and process it. Sometimes it may take longer. For an estimated timeline, check your refund status.
  • Instant refund: You may be offered an instant refund option to your Amazon.co.uk gift card balance or credit card. In this case, you still need to return your items within 30 days. In this case, you still need to return your items within 30 days.
  • Returnless refund: Sometimes you don't have to return your items to get a refund. If you're eligible for a returnless refund, you'll be notified in the Online Return Centre.
  • Cancellation refund: If you request a cancellation before the item enters the shipping process, we'll confirm the cancellation by email. We'll refund any payment made in relation to the cancelled items. The refund will be issued to your original payment method.
  • Gift refunds: The type of refund you receive depends on how the gift was purchased and how it's returned. For more information, go to Return a Gift.
  • Seller refunds: When you return an item to a seller, the seller is responsible for issuing your refund. For more information, go to Marketplace Returns and Refunds.

We’ll notify you by email when we issue your refund. You can also check all correspondence in the Message Centre.

To view completed refunds, go to Your Orders and select View order details. You’ll find refunds for cancelled orders in Transactions.

Refund processing time

Once we’ve issued the refund, it may take some additional time to process it for payment:

Denied or partial refunds

If the product isn't received in new, unopened condition, we may refuse returns or charge you our fees and expenses. When we encounter an issue while processing your return, we'll contact you by email. For more information, go to About Our Returns Policies.

Return postage costs

Sometimes, we’ll refund your return shipping costs for items Fulfilled by Amazon. Fulfilled by Amazon items are dispatched by Amazon and sold by a third-party seller. You can check who dispatched and sold your item on the product detail page, under the Buy Now button. We’ll refund the return shipping costs if the items are:

  • Incorrect
  • Damaged
  • Defective
  • Not matching the product description
  • Fashion items or items that are eligible for free return

Usually we provide you with a pre-paid return label. If a pre-paid label isn't available, you can arrange your own return shipping.

The maximum you'll be refunded is for a Standard Delivery option. If the cost exceeds our Standard Delivery option, contact us to receive a refund for any reasonable extra postage costs. We may require proof of postage to refund such extra postage costs. Keep a valid and clear receipt and send it to us, after 14 days from the return of the item.

If your item isn't eligible for free return and you're using a pre-paid return label, we'll deduct the cost of the return from your refund. We'll always display the most accurate return costs available in our Online Return Centre when you create your label. For more information, go to About Our Returns Policies.
