Initial Set Up for Alexa Home Cinema with HDMI ARC on Compatible Fire TV Sticks
To have audio from your TV and other HDMI sources (like a game console) play through your Echo speakers, set up Alexa Home Cinema with HDMI ARC.
The following Fire TV Sticks are compatible with Alexa Home Cinema with HDMI ARC:
- Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation)
- Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st Generation)
- Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Generation)
To set up Alexa Home Cinema, you need:
- A compatible Fire TV Stick.
- Compatible Echo devices. For a list of compatible devices, go to Amazon Devices that Support Fire TV and Echo Device Speaker Systems.
- A TV that supports HDMI ARC. To check if your TV supports this setting, review your TV's user manual or online support pages.
If you don't have a Fire TV Stick 4K Max or your TV doesn't support ARC, go to Play Audio from Your Fire TV on Your Echo Devices instead.
To set up Alexa Home Cinema with HDMI ARC:
- Turn on the HDMI ARC setting on your TV with the remote that came with your TV. You may need to turn on the HDMI CEC setting manually.
Tip: For step-by-step instructions on how to turn on the HDMI CEC setting on your TV, go to Manage the HDMI ARC or HDMI CEC Setting on Your TV.
- If you have a sound bar or A/V receiver, unplug it from the HDMI port on your TV. Alexa Home Cinema only supports playing audio through Echo devices.
- Check the audio settings on your TV. Go to the settings on your TV and select audio settings such as PCM or Stereo. If you have an Echo Studio, select Bypass, Passthrough, or Auto. These terms vary based on your TV brand.
- Plug your Fire TV device into the HDMI port labeled "ARC" on your TV. If you have another device connected to that port, move it to a different HDMI port.
- To finish setting up your Alexa Home Cinema, go to Set Up Alexa Home Theater on Your Fire TV.
If you move your devices to different HDMI ports, update the port locations on your Fire TV:
- Go to Settings
on your Fire TV Stick 4K Max.
- Select Equipment Control.
- Select Manage Equipment.
- Select the device that you had to move.
- Select the new HDMI port that you plugged it into.
- Repeat these steps for each device that you moved.
