Alexa Home Cinema Isn’t Working with HDMI ARC on Compatible Fire TV Device
If audio from your TV and other HDMI sources (like a game console) isn't playing through your Echo speakers, try these troubleshooting steps.
Note: The steps to adjust the following settings vary by TV brand and model. Check your TV's user manual or online support pages for more information.
To get started, check these device settings:
- Confirm that your TV supports HDMI ARC.
- Check if your Fire TV device is plugged into the HDMI port labeled "ARC" on your TV. If you have another device connected to HDMI ARC port, move it to a different HDMI port.
- If you are using an HDMI extender, use the one provided with the Fire TV or ensure that it’s ARC-capable.
- If you have a sound bar or A/V receiver, unplug it from the HDMI port on your TV.
- Turn on the HDMI ARC setting on your TV. Use the remote that came with your TV and go to the settings on your device. You can also find steps for some common TV brands on Manage the HDMI ARC or HDMI CEC Setting on Your TV.
- Check the audio settings on your TV. Go to the settings on your TV and select audio settings such as PCM or Stereo. If you have an Echo Studio, select Bypass, Passthrough, or Auto. These terms may vary based on your TV brand.
- Make sure that you select the HDMI output option on your TV sound output menu. These terms may vary based on your TV brand.
- Plug your Fire TV device into the HDMI port labeled "ARC" on your TV. If you have another device connected to that port, move it to a different HDMI port.
If you're still having issues with Alexa Home Cinema, try these troubleshooting steps:
- Use your TV's remote to switch to the HDMI input for your Fire TV device. Then, switch back to your connected device (such as a game console).
- Restart your ARC connection:
- Go to Settings
on your Fire TV device.
- Select Display & Audio.
- Select Home Cinema Settings.
- Switch ARC Setup to Disabled to turn it off.
- Switch ARC Setup to Enabled to turn it on again.
- Go to Settings
- Restart both your TV and your Fire TV device. Unplug both devices, wait 1 minute, and then plug them back in.
- If you're still having issues, unpair your Echo devices, and then set up Alexa Home Cinema again:
- Go to Settings
on your Fire TV.
- Select Display & Audio.
- Select Alexa Home Cinema.
- Select Edit Alexa Home Cinema.
- Select Unpair and confirm.
- To set up again and recalibrate your system, select Create Alexa Home Cinema.
- Go to Settings
Tip: If you had to move your devices to different HDMI ports, update the port locations on your Fire TV:
- Go to Settings
on your Fire TV.
- Select Equipment Control.
- Select Manage Equipment.
- Select the device you had to move.
- Select the new HDMI port it was plugged into.
- Repeat these steps for each device that was moved.
