How to Set Up Fire TV Stick 4K (3rd Generation)

Connect your Fire TV Stick 4K (3rd Generation) to your TV and follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup.

Basic requirements

To start, have the following parts, accessories, and information ready:

  • Fire TV Stick 4K (3rd Generation)
  • In-box accessories: Fire TV Remote (2026 release), USB power cable, AAA batteries
  • 4K HDMI extender cable (optional)
  • A TV with available HDMI and USB ports
  • An Amazon account, including your email address or phone number and password
  • If you created an account without a password, press the Back button on your remote when prompted to enter your password. Use your mobile phone or computer to visit the on-screen web address (amazon.co.uk/code) and enter the verification code.
  • An internet connection, including your Wi-Fi name and password

How to set up your device

  1. Plug the included USB-C power cable (0.4m) into the Fire TV Stick's USB-C power port.
  2. Plug the Fire TV Stick into your TV's HDMI port.

    If there’s not enough space, use any 4K HDMI extender you have at home or try the HDMI extender for Fire TV Sticks. Review Use an HDMI extender in these scenarios for more information.

  3. Plug the other end of the included power cable into the USB-A port on your TV.

    • The short cable (0.4m) is designed for Direct Power — a clean, clutter-free setup that powers your Fire TV Stick directly from your TV.
    • If your TV's USB-A port is too far from the HDMI port for the included cable to reach, or you see an on-screen message about insufficient power, try using a USB-C cable and 5V 1A USB power adapter you may already have at home to connect to a wall outlet instead.
    • If you don't have a longer power cable or adapter available, below are our Amazon recommended power adapter and cable options:

  4. Set up your remote:
    1. On the back of the remote, press and hold your thumb on the arrow to release the latch. Make sure that you press the arrow firmly to release the latch as you slide the cover off.
    2. Insert the included AAA batteries.
  5. Using your TV remote, turn on your TV and switch to the correct input.
  6. To set up Wi-Fi, choose one of the options:
    • Use your mobile phone to scan the on-screen QR code to automatically set up Wi-Fi connection.
    • Use your Fire TV remote and follow on-screen instructions to manually set up Wi-Fi connection.
  7. To sign-in or sign up with your Amazon account, choose one of these options:
    • Scan the on-screen QR code with your mobile phone.
    • Visit the on-screen web address (amazon.co.uk/code) and enter the activation code shown on your screen.
  8. Follow the on-screen questions to set up equipment control for devices like soundbars.

Remote overview

Use the playback buttons to play, pause video content. Use the Alexa Voice button for voice commands. You can also use the preset app buttons at the bottom of the remote to quickly navigate to select apps.

Troubleshoot setup issues

If setting up your device doesn't go as expected, try the following suggestions:

  • If you see a USB insufficient power notification when you connect the Fire TV Stick 4K to your TV, visit Troubleshoot Fire TV Low Power Notification.
    Note: If you need a longer cable and power adapter because the power cable is too short to reach the wall outlet or your TV's USB port, below are our Amazon recommended power adapter and cable options:

  • If you get a login error or have forgotten your Amazon account password, you can reset your password. Go to Forgot Your Password.

  • If you're having issues with your Wi-Fi password, contact your internet service provider.

Use an HDMI extender in these scenarios

An HDMI extender provides access to hard-to-reach HDMI ports behind your TV and reduces over-crowded cables in your entertainment setup. You may need an HDMI extender if the following situations apply to your set up:

  • Your TV’s back panel pocket is smaller than 4.5 inches
  • Other cables are crowding your TV’s back panel on either side
  • The TV has back-facing HDMI ports and is mounted or sits flush with the wall
