Set Up Home Cinema with HDMI or HDMI ARC on Fire TV Cube (3rd Generation)

To have audio from your TV and other HDMI sources (like a game console) play through your Echo speakers, set up Alexa Home Cinema with HDMI or HDMI ARC.

To set up Home Cinema, you need:

If you don't have a Fire TV Cube (3rd Generation) or your TV doesn't support ARC, go to Play Audio from Your Fire TV on Your Echo Devices

To set up Home Cinema with HDMI or HDMI ARC:

  1. Plug an HDMI cable from the Fire TV Cube into an available HDMI or HDMI ARC port on your TV.
    Note: If you're using an HDMI ARC port on your TV, do the following:
    1. Turn on the HDMI ARC setting on your TV. Use the remote that came with your TV and go to the settings on your device. You can find the steps for some common TV brands on Manage the HDMI ARC or HDMI CEC Setting on Your TV.
    2. If you have a sound bar or AV receiver, unplug it from the HDMI port on your TV.

      Home Cinema only supports playing audio through Echo devices.

    3. Check the audio settings on your TV. Go to the settings on your TV and select audio settings such as PCM or Stereo. If you have an Echo Studio, select Bypass, Passthrough, or Auto. These terms will vary based on your brand.
    4. If you have another device connected to the HDMI ARC port, move it to a different HDMI port.
  2. Go to Settings on your Fire TV Cube.
  3. Select Display & Audio.
  4. Select Home Cinema.
  5. Choose Create Home Cinema.
  6. Select Begin Setup.
  7. Select up to two Echo devices to use as speakers. You can also select an optional subwoofer.
  8. Select Next.
  9. Confirm the placement of the speakers.
  10. Select Continue.

If you had to move your devices to different HDMI ports, update the port locations on your Fire TV:

  1. Go to Settings on your Fire TV Cube.
  2. Select Equipment Control.
  3. Select Manage Equipment.
  4. Select the device you had to move.
  5. Select the new HDMI port it was plugged into.
  6. Repeat these steps for each device that was moved.
