Resolve a Declined Payment

To protect your security and privacy, your bank can't provide Amazon with information about why your payment was declined. Contact your bank directly to solve these payment issues or try to use another card.

Troubleshooting Methods for Declined Payments

Retry a declined payment

  1. Go to Your Orders.
  2. Select Retry Payment Method next to the order.

Use a different payment method

  1. Go to Your Orders.
  2. Select Change Payment Method next to the order.
  3. Choose another payment method or add a new card.
  4. Select Confirm.

Contact your bank

Only your bank can provide information about why your payment was declined. Contact your bank if:

  • You have available funds in your account.
  • You've used the payment method successfully before.
  • Part of your order was charged and dispatched.

If your payment is declined again, we'll cancel the order. Place a new order if you still want to purchase the item.

How to prevent future payment declines

  • Verify your payment card information in Your Account.
  • Ensure your billing address and phone number match your bank's records.
  • Check that you have sufficient funds for the purchase.
  • Review your bank's policies on electronic or internet purchases.
