Resolve Wi-Fi Connection Issues on Your Kindle E-Reader
Try these troubleshooting tips if your device can't connect to a Wi-Fi network.
Note: Kindle devices don't support 6 GHz Wi-Fi bands. Kindle devices released before 2021 also don't support 5 GHz and WPA3 encryption. If supported, use 5GHz Wi-Fi to avoid interference.
- Make sure that Airplane mode is off.
- Make sure that you're using the right Wi-Fi network name and password. Refer to Locate Your Wi-Fi Password for more information.
- Confirm other devices connect to the same network. Check out our page Troubleshooting Network Outage for more information.
- Try restarting your device.
- Make sure that your Kindle is within the range of the wireless router.
- Check that your Kindle is away from any devices that cause interference (such as microwaves, baby monitors, or other high bandwidth consuming WiFi devices).
- Confirm that your device has the latest software or firmware version available.
- If several devices are connected to your Wi-Fi network, try turning some of them off temporarily to see if that improves your Kindle device's ability to connect.
- Attempt to connect your device to Wi-Fi again or add a network manually by choosing the Other... option in the Wi-Fi scanlist.
- Public hotspots may require a separate sign-in, usually through a pop-up. If the pop-up doesn't appear automatically, open any simple website on the Kindle browser and check if the welcome page is displayed.
- Try connecting your Kindle with your smartphone as a personal Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Try rebooting your modem and router. See Restart Home Network Devices for more information.
- Try factory resetting your Kindle.
- Confirm that your device has the latest software version available. See Kindle E-Reader Software Updates to compare version numbers.
- For Wi-Fi roaming to work, make sure your 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and extender or mesh network all have the same network name, security type, and password.
