We're very sorry for your loss. When a loved one or a close relative passes away our support team are here to help.
In order to protect customer data, we are only able to share account information or take actions in relation to an account when the request comes from the authorized person of the customer's estate.
If you have access to the email address associated with the Amazon account, you can sign in to proceed with your request. If you do not have access to the account, verification is required to ensure that you are authorized to act on behalf of the deceased. We will ask you to provide certain documentation:
- A copy of the death certificate, and,
- official certified documentation showing that you are the authorized person to act on behalf of the Amazon account holder, and
- a valid photographic ID for the named authorized person listed on the letter of authorization such as a passport, ID card or driver’s license, and
- the email address associated with the Amazon account. If you do not know the email address associated with the account, please provide some information to help us authenticate the correct account. This information could be, for example, a mobile number, unique charge ID, or order number from the account. This information can be located on delivery packages, email confirmation or on a bank/payment provider statement.
This documentation is required to ensure we only take action on the correct account, and account information is provided only to authorized persons with a legal entitlement to the information requested. We assure you that the documents provided will be deleted after validation. If you do not have the required documentation, please get in touch with our dedicated support team at bereavement-support@amazon.co.uk.
Please know that closing the account is a permanent action. We advise you to read the important information regarding the account closure of an Amazon account before proceeding with the request. You can find this information on our What Happens When I Close My Account? Help page. Once the account is closed all of the products and services accessed through that account will no longer be available across any Amazon sites globally. These products and services include any content such as photos, music, Prime, and books that will also be deleted.
