Write in the Expandable Margin of eBooks on Kindle Scribe
Open the expandable margin and write directly in it, or create notes anchored to specific passages and view them in the margin of your book.
Note: Expandable margin is currently available on Kindle Scribe only, and supports left-to-right horizontal languages only. This feature doesn't support right-to-left horizontal languages, such as Arabic, or vertical languages like Japanese currently.
Opening the Expandable Margin
- Find the expandable margin icon at the top of either the left or right margin.
- Tap the icon to open the expandable margin. It opens on the opposite side of the writing toolbar.
There are three easy ways to add notes:
- Write directly in the Expandable Margin. Your notes automatically anchor to nearby text.
- Use the Sticky Note tool from the writing toolbar and tap where you want the note.
- Tap any highlight or underline and select "Note" from the menu. Your note gets linked to that specific passage.
You can:
- Adjust the panel width.
- Choose between docked view (beside the text) or overlay view (on top of the text).
- Close the panel completely and have your notes appear as sticky notes on the page. Your sticky notes appear in the expandable margin when it's open.
If your expandable margin appears to be full, you can always create new notes by using the Sticky Note tool to anchor to text. Or, you can also tap any highlight or underline and select "Note". The expandable margin automatically creates space for new notes.
