Resolve Wi-Fi Connection Issues on Your Fire Tablet
Try these troubleshooting steps if your device can't connect to a Wi-Fi network.
Quick Actions
- Turn off Airplane mode.
- Check that you use the correct network name and password. Go to Locate Your Wi-Fi Password.
- Confirm other devices connect to the same network. Go to Troubleshooting Network Outage.
- Move your tablet closer to your router.
- Move your tablet away from microwaves, baby monitors, or other wireless devices.
- Disconnect other devices from your Wi-Fi to free up bandwidth.
- For Wi-Fi roaming to work, make sure your 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and extender or mesh network all have the same network name, security type, and password.
- Public hotspots may require a separate sign-in, usually through a pop-up. If the pop-up doesn't appear automatically, open any simple website on the Silk browser and check if the welcome page is displayed.
Restart Your Device
- Restart your tablet
- Reboot your modem and router. Go to Restart Home Network Devices.
- Wait two minutes, then try connecting again.
Add a Hidden Network
If the network name doesn't show in the scan list, add the network manually:
- Select Add Network and enter the network name and password
- Select Advanced.
- Select the hidden network dropdown.
- Select Yes to connect.
Reset Network
- Go to Settings.
- Select Connected Devices, then select Network Settings Reset
- Try connecting again.
Update Software
- Confirm that your device has the latest software version available. Visit our page Fire Tablet Software Updates to compare version numbers.
- Try connecting again.
Try a Different Connection
- Connect your tablet to a smartphone as a personal Wi-Fi hotspot.
- If this works, the issue is with your network, not your tablet.
Factory Reset Your Tablet
If the issue still persists, Factory Reset Your Fire Tablet.
Note: If multiple devices can't connect, contact your Internet Service Provider.
