Resolve Wi-Fi Connection Issues on Your Fire Tablet

Try these troubleshooting steps if your device can't connect to a Wi-Fi network.

  • Make sure that Airplane mode is off.
  • Make sure that you're using the right Wi-Fi network name and password. Refer to our page Locate Your Wi-Fi Password for more information.
  • Confirm other devices connect to the same network. Refer to our page Troubleshooting Network Outage for more information.
  • Try restarting your device.
  • Make sure that your device is within the range of the wireless router.
  • Check that your device is away from any devices that cause interference (such as microwaves, baby monitors, or other high bandwidth consuming wireless devices).
  • If the network name doesn't show in the scan list, add the network manually:
    1. Select Add Network and enter the network name and password.
    2. Select Advanced, then select the hidden network dropdown.
    3. Select Yes to connect to the hidden network.
  • Confirm that your device has the latest software version available. Visit our page Fire Tablet Software Updates to compare version numbers.
  • To improve your device's ability to connect, try disconnecting other devices connected with your Wi-Fi network.
  • Attempt to connect your device to Wi-Fi again or add a network manually by choosing the Other... option in the Wi-Fi scanlist.
  • Public hotspots may require a separate sign-in, usually through a pop-up. If the pop-up doesn't appear automatically, open any simple website on the Silk browser and check if the welcome page is displayed.
  • Try connecting your device with your smartphone as a personal Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • Try resetting your network setting:
    1. Go to Settings.
    2. Select Connected Devices, then select Network Settings Reset.
  • Try rebooting your modem and router. Refer to our page Restart Home Network Devices for more information.
  • Try factory resetting your device.
  • Make sure to configure your primary networks (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz), your extender, or your mesh nodes with the exact same network name, security type, and password for seamless roaming to work.

Tip: If you’re experiencing connection issues on multiple devices, contact your Internet Service Provider.
