Kindle for PC Keyboard Shortcuts

You can use many keyboard shortcuts to navigate the Kindle for PC application.

Anywhere in the Application

  • Go to Home - CTRL, ALT, L
  • Exit the Application - CTRL, Q
  • Sync - F5
  • Help - F1
  • Move focus to next enabled control - Tab

From Library

  • Move the focus to the book above the current selection - Up Arrow
  • Move the focus of the book to the right of the current selection - Right Arrow
  • Move the focus of the book to the left of the current selection - Left Arrow
  • Move the focus of the book below the current selection - Down Arrow
  • Scroll the list of books up one page (but do not change the current focus) - Page Up
  • Scroll the list of books down one page (but do not change the current focus) - Page Down
  • Open selected book to last (go to last page read) - Enter, CTRL O
  • Sort by Most Recent - CTRL, ALT, R
  • Sort by Title - CTRL, ALT, T
  • Sort by Author - CTRL, ALT, U

While Reading a Book

  • Next Page - Page Down or Right Arrow
  • Previous Page - Page Up or Left Arrow
  • Back - Backspace
  • Increase Font Size - CTRL, + (doesn't work on comics or content for children)
  • Decrease Font Size - CTRL, - (doesn't work on comics or content for children)
  • Bookmark - CTRL, D
  • Open Notes and Marks (if closed) - CTRL, B
  • Close Notes and Marks (if opened) - CTRL, B
  • Go to Location - CTRL, G
  • Close Book - CTRL, W
  • Search - CTRL, F
  • Toggle Full-Screen Mode - F11
  • Exit Full-Screen Mode - ESC
  • Single Column - Alt + 1
  • Two-Column - Alt + 2
  • Multi-Column - Alt + 3
  • Open Flashcard Side Panel - Ctrl, Shift, F
  • Open and close X-Ray for Textbooks - Ctrl, Y (only works on eligible Textbooks)
  • Flip Flashcards - Ctrl, Space bar (only works when in the Flashcards deck)
  • Export to Flashcards from Notebook - Ctrl, Shift, N (when using the Notebook)
  • Export notes from Notebook - Ctrl, Alt, E (when using the Notebook)

Using Text-to-Speech

To use these shortcuts, you must enable Text-to-Speech first. Press "Ctrl, T" or select the Tools menu and choose Start Text-to-Speech.

  • Toggle Text-to-Speech - Ctrl, T
  • Pause or resume reading - Space bar (while in a book)
  • Read the previous sentence - Ctrl, Shift, Up arrow
  • Skip forward one sentence - Ctrl, Shift, Down arrow
  • Increase speech rate - Shift, +
  • Decrease speech rate - Shift, -
  • Toggle continuous reading - Ctrl, Shift, C
Note: This feature only works on eligible Kindle content. You can configure the Text-to-Speech language from the System Preferences on your computer.

Navigating Within Tables (NVDA)

  • Go to the next table - T
  • Go to the previous table - Shift + T
  • Enter first cell - Shift + ,
  • Cell to right - Ctrl + Alt + rightArrow
  • Cell to left - Ctrl + Alt + leftArrow
  • Cell above - Ctrl + Alt + upArrow
  • Cell below - Ctrl + Alt + downArrow
  • Next (Previous) link - K (Shift + K)
  • Next (Previous) image - G (Shift + G)
