Use Your Alexa Device to Control Your Fire TV Smart TV
Use compatible Alexa devices to do things like control the volume on your Fire TV Smart TV or turn it on and off.
Note: A few things to keep in mind:
- Fire TV Smart TVs don't respond to voice commands while powered off or in standby mode. For Fire TV Omni TVs, turn on Alexa Anytime in Settings to give voice commands when your TV screen is off or in standby mode.
- If Alexa Announcements are on for your Fire TV Smart TV, Announcements play even if your device is in standby mode. You can manage Announcement settings in the Alexa app. For Fire TV Omni TVs, you can also manage Announcements from your device Settings.
- Some Alexa voice commands are only available in select languages.

To control more features and settings on your Fire TV Smart TV, link your Alexa device and Fire TV Smart TV in the Alexa app.
To turn off the microphones on your Fire TV Omni TVs, slide the Microphone On/Off switch on the bottom of the TV. When muted, it lights up red.
Use voice commands like these examples below to control the volume on your Fire TV Smart TV, switch input channels, and browse live TV.
Input switching and power:
- "Turn Fire TV [on/off]."
Tip: To use this voice command, select Turn on TV with Alexa in your Fire TV settings.
- "Turn [up/down] the volume on Fire TV."
- "Switch to [input]."
Browse Live TV:
- "Open TV guide."
- "Go to [channel / network]."
- "Change to [channel / network]."
Change sound and picture settings:
- "Set the picture mode to dynamic."
- "Mute Fire TV.
- "Change the sound mode to sports."
- "Increase [Treble/Midrange/Bass]."
- "Decrease [Treble/Midrange/Bass]."
- "Reset the equalizer."
