Alexa Can't Connect to My Smart Home Device Through Bluetooth

To set up Bluetooth smart home devices with Alexa, just power on your smart home device. Then say, "Discover devices." If that doesn't work, try these troubleshooting steps:

  • Make sure that your smart home device supports Bluetooth by checking the packaging and the device for a Bluetooth logo .
  • Make sure that your smart home device is compatible with Alexa by checking the manufacturer's instructions or companion app.
  • Place your smart home device within 30 ft (9 m) of your Echo device.
  • Make sure that your Echo device software is up to date. Your Echo device software updates automatically.
    • You can manually check for updates by restarting your device, or by saying, "Check for updates."
    • If you're using an Echo device with a screen, swipe down from the top of the display and select Settings. Then go to Device Options > Check for software updates.
  • For detailed steps specific to your device, open the Alexa app and go to Devices . Select the plus icon and then select Add Device. Select your brand or your device type, then follow the instructions in the app.
  • If you're experiencing issues setting up your smart home device, make sure it's in pairing mode. Pairing mode instructions are usually in the device manufacturer’s manual.

If you're still having trouble connecting Bluetooth devices, reset your device.
