Use the Show Mode Charging Dock

Dock your 7th Generation Fire HD 8 or HD 10 device or 8th Generation Fire HD 8 device to the adjustable stand and automatically switch to Show Mode.

Important: The Show Mode Charging Dock is compatible with 7th Generation Fire HD 8 and HD 10 tablets and 8th Generation Fire HD 8 tablets. No other devices are supported at this time. Seventh Generation Fire HD 8 and HD 10 tablets must have software update 5.6.3.0 or later for Show Mode or the Show Mode Charging Dock to work. Fire HD 8 (8th Generation) tablets must have software update 6.3.0.1 or later for Show Mode or the Show Mode Charging Dock to work. Make sure to use the power cable and adapter included with your Show Mode Charging Dock for optimal charging performance.

Set Up the Show Mode Charging Dock

To set up your Show Mode Charging Dock:

  1. Make sure that your Fire tablet has the latest software:
    1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and select the Settings (gear) icon.
    2. Select Device Options, then select System Update.
    3. Select Check for Updates and install any pending software updates.
  2. Pull the USB connector tab on the tablet shell out slightly. Then put the shell on your tablet and connect the micro USB connector to the tablet's charging port.
  3. Plug in the adjustable stand using the included power cable and adapter.
  4. Dock your tablet to the stand with the magnetic charging contacts touching.

To remove your Fire tablet from the shell:

  1. Undock your Fire tablet from Show Mode Charging Dock.
  2. Manually unplug the USB connector tab from the tablet’s charging port before removing the shell.
  3. Remove the shell from your Fire tablet.

Use the Show Mode Charging Dock

If you've activated Automatic Mode Switching, your device automatically enters Show Mode if you place it in the Show Mode Charging Dock. To activate Automatic Mode Switching:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen and select the Settings (gear) icon.
  2. select Show Mode in the settings menu.
  3. Toggle the Automatic Mode Switching setting to "on."
To deactivate Show Mode, remove the device from the dock. Removing your device from the dock doesn't disrupt things like Alexa calls or your flash briefing. For more information on Show Mode, go to Show Mode on Your Fire Tablet.

The dock has an adjustable stand to change your device’s viewing angle, and charges your device while it is connected. Put your device in standby mode to decrease the charging time. Press the power button to turn off the screen.

Tip: Make sure that your device is magnetically connected to the dock, otherwise the device doesn't charge properly. Look for the charging icon in the lower right of the device’s screen.

Troubleshoot the Show Mode Charging Dock

Issue: Nothing happens when the tablet is set on the Show Mode Charging Dock.

Try the following tips:

  • Make sure that your Fire tablet has the latest software.
    1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the Settings (gear) icon.
    2. Select Device Options, then select System Update.
    3. Select Check for Updates and install any pending software updates.
  • Make sure that Alexa is activated on the device. If Alexa is not activated, the device charges when placed on the dock, but it does not enter Show Mode.
  • Make sure that the Fire tablet is securely clipped into the tablet shell and that the micro USB connector is plugged into the charging port.
  • Check the power cable for the dock. The cable must be firmly plugged into the back of the dock and into the adapter, and the adapter must be connected to a working outlet.
  • Make sure that the magnetic contacts are connected between the dock and the tablet. The back of the device shell has two small, metal contacts. The contacts magnetically connect to two metal pins on the dock. Unless these contacts are touching, the device does not charge or enter Show Mode.
  • Make sure that Automatic Mode Switching is activated:
    1. Open the Settings menu, then select Show Mode.
    2. Toggle the Automatic Mode Switching setting to "on."

Issue: Device takes longer to charge on the Show Mode Charging Dock.

  • This may be normal if you’re using your Fire tablet frequently while it is connected to the dock.
  • Put the device in standby mode to decrease the charging time. Press the power button to turn off the screen.
