My Smart Home Device Doesn't Connect to Alexa
To troubleshoot setup or connectivity issues, try these steps.
- Make sure that your smart home device is compatible with Alexa. Devices that have a "Works with Alexa" badge are certified to work with Alexa.
- Connect smart home Wi-Fi devices on 2.4 GHz bands.
- Restart your Alexa device and your smart home device by unplugging and plugging them back in.
- Check that your home internet has connectivity and if your Echo device responds. Say, “Are you online?”
- If a "No new devices found" message appears in the Alexa app, your device may have connected automatically using Amazon's Frustration-Free Setup technology. To confirm your device's connection, check in the Alexa app under Devices.
- For third-party smart home devices that use Wi-Fi and aren't Matter
certified, download the manufacturer's app for your smart home device, and complete device setup. Alexa connects to your device with the associated skill.
- With some devices, you can link your Alexa account and your third-party device's account in the manufacturer's app during setup. Then it may activate the relevant skill to connect with Alexa.
- If the relevant skill isn’t active after setup in the manufacturer’s app, activate the skill as needed in the Alexa app.
- Download and install any software updates available for your devices.
Matter Wi-Fi devices must connect on the same 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network as your compatible Matter controller (such as a compatible Echo device).
- For Matter
devices, make sure it's within 30 ft (9 m) of your compatible Matter controller.
- For Zigbee
devices, make sure it's within 30 ft (9 m) of your Zigbee hub or another connected Zigbee smart home device.
- Make sure that your device is in pairing mode. Pairing mode instructions are usually in the device manufacturer’s manual. Devices that use pairing modes include:
- Zigbee
- Bluetooth
- Matter
- If your smart home device stops working after successfully connecting to your Alexa Device:
- Disconnect your smart home device in the Alexa app. Then, activate your smart home device again.
- If your smart home device uses a skill:
- Try controlling the device in the manufacturer's app.
- If you can control your device with the manufacturer's app, but not with Alexa, reactivate the skill in the Alexa app.
- Check your internet connection in the manufacturer's app.
If these smart home troubleshooting steps don't work, try resetting your Alexa device and smart home devices. To learn more about Alexa's Matter support and compatible devices, go to Alexa Smart Home Connectivity (https://www.amazon.co.uk/connect_to_alexa).
