Reset Your Echo (1st Generation)

If your Echo (1st Generation) isn’t responding, and you’ve tried to restart it, reset your device.

If your device is unresponsive, first restart your device. Unplug the power adapter from the device or the outlet and wait for 10 seconds. Plug it back in to restart it.

To reset your device and keep your smart home connections:

  1. Use a paper clip (or similar tool) to press the Reset button briefly.
  2. Wait for the light ring to turn off and on again.
  3. Your device enters setup mode. For setup instructions, go to Set Up Your Echo.

To reset your device to its factory settings:

  1. Use a paper clip (or similar tool) to press and hold the Reset button for 8 seconds.
  2. Wait for the light ring to turn off and on again.
  3. Your device enters setup mode. For setup instructions, go to Set Up Your Echo.
Note: This reset erases all your personal information and any device and smart home connections.
Tip: If resetting your device isn’t helpful or you no longer want to use your device, Deregister Your Device from your Amazon account. Deregistering your device erases all device settings.
