Connect Smart Home Devices to Alexa

To control Alexa-compatible smart home devices like smart bulbs, smart plugs, thermostats, or cameras with your voice, connect them to Alexa.

Before you connect your device to Alexa:

  • Ensure that your smart home device is Alexa-compatible. Devices that have a "Works with Alexa" badge are certified to work with Alexa.
  • Check if your device was already connected to Alexa by Amazon's Frustration-Free Setup. Go to the Devices page in the Alexa app and check if your device is listed. If so, it's ready to use.
  • Please read Safety Information for Using Smart Home Devices with Alexa before you activate a smart home skill.
  • Most smart home Wi-Fi devices only work on 2.4GHz bands.

To connect your device to Alexa:

  1. Open the Alexa app .
  2. Open Devices .
  3. Select the plus icon .
  4. Select Add Device.
  5. Select the type of smart home device that you want to connect.
  6. Select the brand and follow the on-screen instructions.
