About Customs Duties & Taxes

When purchasing an item on Amazon.co.uk for delivery to a country covered by the Amazon Global, Amazon Global Store, and for items sold by a third-party seller and Fulfilled by Amazon from the EU, taxes, customs duties, and fees leveraged by competent authorities may apply ("Import Fees"). Their payment is your solely responsibility as the importer (i.e. customer). In these cases, to facilitate customs clearance for you, an estimated Import Fees Deposit or fixed Import Charges and additional taxes may be applied to your order.

How customs work on items sold or fulfilled by Amazon on Amazon.co.uk

Import Fees Deposits and/or Import Charges which are applied to your order will be used to pay Import Fees on your behalf (or on behalf of the recipient). For further details, visit About Import Fees Deposit and Import Charges.

When the country your order is being delivered to isn't covered by the Amazon Global programme then any additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you. We have no control over these charges and can't predict what they may be.

Customs policies vary widely from country to country, so you should contact your local customs office for further information. Additionally, please note that when ordering on Amazon.co.uk for international delivery, you're considered the importer of record and must comply with all laws and regulations of the country in which you're receiving the goods.

Customs offices in some countries require the importer of record to provide a particular form of identification before releasing a parcel. As the importer of record, you may be required to provide the recipient's identification number such as a Unique Identification Number, CPF, or Tax ID. You can include this when you add a new address at https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/css/account/address/view.html?viewID=newAddress. If the destination country requires this information, you'll have the option to include it here.

If new Region 1 DVDs are sold from the USA or Canada, you may be subject to import duties and taxes which are levied once the package reaches your country. Again, please note that when ordering new Region 1 DVDs from Amazon Marketplace Sellers, you're considered the importer of record and must comply with all laws and regulations of the country in which you're receiving the goods.

Generally, customs forms for international parcels will list the value of the contents of your order by product type. For instance, orders containing CDs, videos, books and software will generally be listed like this:

  • Books value £29.55
  • CD value £9.95
  • Video value: £39.95
  • Software value: £37.95

Customs forms for non-UK shipments show the value of items included in the delivery by product type. We reserve the right to provide such information to customs in order to simplify the process for our customers or due to legal obligations. Customs can open and control packages, we have no influence over that.

When the order is a gift, the package will be marked "Gift". The prices of the articles are nevertheless shown in the customs form. We are currently unable to describe the content in any other way.

The recipient of an international shipment may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once a shipment reaches your destination. As a rule, additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by the recipient. For goods sold and shipped to Switzerland and Liechtenstein by Amazon itself as well as items that you buy from sellers using Fulfillment by Amazon ("FBA"), Amazon will calculate and charge the customs, duties and taxes during the order process, and relieve you from the customs formalities.
