Turn Accessibility Features On or Off on Your Fire Tablet
With accessibility features, you can magnify the screen and increase the size of text in menus on your Fire tablet. You can also navigate your device using gestures and hear spoken feedback about the items you touch and open.
- To turn on accessibility features for Fire tablet (FireOS 5 and higher):
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to show Quick Actions.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen a second time to expand Quick Actions.
- Tap
to access Settings. - Tap Accessibility.
- Select your accessibility options:
- To activate VoiceView during first-time setup, press the power button three times quickly. If activated during first time setup, this shortcut can be used to turn VoiceView on or off.

| VoiceView | Manage VoiceView screen reader settings, including turning VoiceView on or off, adjusting reading speed and volume, feedback tone volume, braille output, and gestures. VoiceView describes what you touch and interact with on the screen (for example, the title of a book in your Library). | Speak Selection | You can activate Speak Selection any time from the Settings on your compatible Fire tablet. Within Settings, select Accessibility, then select Speak Selection under the Screen Readers section. The Speak Selection speech bubble icon floats in the corner of the screen. | Vision Settings | Description |
| Font Size | Increases or decreases the size of the text throughout the device. |
| Screen Magnifier | Provides a set of gestures to control magnification of the screen. |
| High Contrast Text | Changes most of the text on-screen to black or white, and adds a border of the opposite color. |
| Color Correction | Modify screen colors to assist with the following types of color blindness: Deuteranomaly (red-green), Protanomaly (red-green), and Tritanomaly (blue-yellow). |
| Color Inversion | Invert color values on all screens. For example, white text on a black screen becomes black text on a white screen. |
| Audio & On-Screen Settings | Description |
| Audio Descriptions | Plays audio descriptions for movies and TV shows from Prime Video (when available for the title). |
| Closed Captioning |
Shows closed captions for movies and TV shows from Prime Video and web videos in the Silk browser (when available for the title).
Note: Tap
Closed Captioning to customize preferences for videos that have Closed Captions available, including the text style, text and window background, and more.

| Convert Stereo to Mono | Deactivates stereo sound and combines both stereo channels into each ear. |
| Interaction Controls | Description |
| Switch Access | Allows you to use assistive switches to navigate your Fire Tablet and interact with content. A "switch" is a general term for input devices such as a button, eye blink sensor, or sip puff straw, which can help people with motor or dexterity impairments that prevent them from interacting with the touchscreen. | Voice Access | The Voice Access feature helps you navigate your Fire tablet and interact with content with speech input. You can activate Voice Access any time from the Settings on your compatible Fire tablet. Within Settings, select Accessibility, Interaction Controls, and then select Voice Access. Every selectable item is labeled with a number and can be activated by speaking that number. Voice Access is only available on the following devices:
Note: Voice Access is only available when your device language is set to English. You can change your device language by going to
Settings >
Device Options >
Keyboard & Language >
Language.

- To turn off VoiceView:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen with three fingers to open Quick Settings.
Tip: If you're on the lock screen, place two fingers on the screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen, and then open Quick Settings.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen a second time to expand Quick Actions.
- Tap
to access Settings. - Tap Accessibility, and then double-tap the screen to open the Accessibility menu.
- Tap VoiceView Screen Reader, and then double-tap the screen.
- Next to VoiceView, tap the switch, and then double-tap the screen.
- In the alert that appears, tap Continue, and then double-tap to confirm.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen with three fingers to open Quick Settings.
