Resolve Common Two-Step Verification Issues

Learn how to log in and resolve issues during registration with the security code for Two-Step Verification.

Tip: You can update your device privacy settings via Manage Your Content and Devices.

During registration, you may see a request to enter a unique security code in addition to your password for Two-Step Verification. This process adds an extra layer of security when logging into your account. You'll typically see this request on untrusted computers and devices.

Some devices and apps may not ask for a unique security code when logging in. You may receive an error even with the correct password. The issue can be resolved by logging in via an Alternate Sign-in process.

To log in with Alternative Sign-in for Two-Step Verification:

  1. Enter your sign-in information and select Submit.
  2. You receive an error message saying that your email and password combination is incorrect.
  3. You'll receive a security code through a text message, voice call, or an authenticator app.
  4. Enter the security code at the end of your account password and select Submit. For example, if the password is "abcdef" and the security code received is "12345," enter "abcdef12345" as your password.

Note: If an alternate sign-in is required, you'll not be able to save a device as a trusted device.

During device registration, if you forget your account password, use the one-time password (OTP) and unique security code to log in.

To register your device or apps using an OTP:

  1. Enter your sign-in information and select Submit.
  2. You’ll receive a notification via email or text from Amazon containing an OTP. The OTP is time-sensitive, use it within 10 minutes of receipt.
  3. Enter your OTP to register.
  4. You’ll receive a security code through text message, voice call, or authenticator app.
  5. Add your Two-Step Verification code at the end of the OTP and select Submit.

Important: If you don’t receive an OTP:

  • Check your phone’s network connection.
  • Verify the phone number associated with your Amazon account. Visit Change Your Account Settings.
  • Clear your message inbox and restart your phone.
  • Ensure that Amazon’s number is unblocked on your phone or use an alternative phone number by updating your account settings.
