Fix Amazon Two-Step Verification Issues

Troubleshoot Amazon Two-Step Verification issues during login and device registration.

Two-Step Verification adds extra security to your Amazon account. To resolve common issues, use the following steps:

Log in Problems on New or Untrusted Devices

If you can’t log in and don't get promoted for a security code, try the Alternate Sign-in process:

  1. Enter your email and password, then select Submit
  2. If you encounter an error message, wait for a security code via text, call, or authenticator app
  3. Add the security code to the end of your password and submit again. Example: If your password is "amazon123" and the security code is "45678," enter "amazon12345678"
  4. Note: You can't save devices as trusted when using Alternate Sign-in

Registration Issues with Forgotten Passwords

If you forget your password during device registration, use a one-time password (OTP) with your security code:

  1. Enter your email and select Submit
  2. Check your email or text messages for the OTP (valid for 10 minutes)
  3. To start registration, enter the OTP
  4. Wait for Two-Step Verification security code
  5. Combine the OTP and security code, then Submit

Troubleshooting OTP Issues

If you didn’t receive the OTP:

  • Check your phone's network connection
  • Verify or update your Amazon account phone number at Login & Security
  • Clear your message inbox and restart your phone
  • Ensure that Amazon's number isn't blocked
