Visual Adjustments
Books that support visual adjustments allow you to modify the appearance of the text and the page layout. You can adjust the visual appearance, which can increase readability and make it easier to comprehend the text.
Kindle books come in two different formats:
- Reflowable Kindle books allow for the modification of the appearance by adapting to your device's screen size and your chosen font and layout settings.
- Fixed layout books include print replica, manga, comics, and some children's books or textbooks. With this format, books preserve their layout and structure and don't allow for visual adjustments.
A book will include one of the following descriptions for visual adjustments include:
- Appearance can be modified: The text of this Kindle book can be adjusted (e.g., size, font, color, margins, spacing, alignment)
- Appearance cannot be modified: The text of this Kindle book cannot be adjusted (e.g., size, font, color, margins, spacing, alignment)
- Not known if appearance can be modified: No information is available about the capability to adjust the text of this Kindle book (e.g., size, font, color, margins, spacing alignment)

Nonvisual Reading
Nonvisual reading indicates whether all content required for comprehension can be consumed in text and is accessible to users of assistive technologies. Some examples of compatible assistive technologies include screen readers and refreshable braille displays, typically used by people who are blind or have low vision.
The text of most reflowable Kindle books is accessible. However, when Kindle books include content such as images, photographs, graphs, tables, or videos, textual alternatives may be required for comprehension. Without the textual alternatives, the book won't be considered readable in read aloud and braille.
Textual alternatives could include alt text, extended descriptions, transcripts, and captions. Currently, print replica and image-based fixed layout Kindle books aren’t readable in read aloud and braille.
A book will include one of the following nonvisual reading descriptions:
- Readable in read aloud and braille: The text of this Kindle book is accessible to screen readers, and all meaningful non-text content has text alternatives (e.g., images have alt text and/or extended descriptions).
- Partially readable in read aloud and braille: The text of this Kindle book is accessible to screen readers, but some meaningful non-text content may not have text alternatives (e.g., image alt text and/or extended descriptions).
- Not readable in read aloud and braille: The text of this Kindle book is not accessible to screen readers. Note: Print replica and image-based Kindle books (e.g., comics, manga) do not currently support nonvisual reading.
- Not known if readable in read aloud and braille: No information available about the nonvisual reading aspects of this Kindle book.

- Video with a flashing hazard: Note: This refers to video content with flashing that occurs more than 3 times per second or doesn’t meet the general flash or red flash thresholds.

Conformance
Conformance labels help you identify whether the digital publication claims to meet internationally recognized conformance standards for accessibility.
The only time Conformance information displays is if it's provided by the publisher. Conformance claims include the specific set of accessibility requirements that the Kindle book purports to meet and, if applicable, will include the certifier’s name. For example: WCAG 2.0/2.1/2.2 Level A/AA/AAA.

One or more navigation labels may display if the publisher indicates that the Kindle book includes navigational features to support accessibility. Possible navigational features include:
- Table of contents: The book includes a table of contents for navigating to the major sections of the book.
- Index: The book contains one or more indexes of the content. Examples of possible indexes: a topical index or an index of names. Indexes allow readers who can't see the text or have difficulty following it to find and return to subjects more easily.
- Real page numbers that correspond to an equivalent print book: The book contains references to the page numbering of an equivalent print book.
- Heading markup for screen reader users: The book contains heading tags so that users of assistive technologies can understand the structure of the book without having to use the table of contents.

Troubleshooting
In general, a book that supports visual adjustments and nonvisual reading will be accessible when read with any Kindle device or app.
However, there are some limitations to be aware of. Not all Kindle book accessibility features are fully supported across all Kindle devices and apps. For example, you can't currently read alt text and mathML on Kindle e-readers.
