Ask for Music and Recommendations with Alexa+

Alexa+ gives you more ways to ask for songs, get recommendations, and review your listening history.

Alexa+ can help you find music and make recommendations through natural conversation like you would talk to a friend.

You can speak to Alexa conversationally when you make a request, but some examples of things you can say are:

Ask Alexa to play some music:

In addition to common requests like searching by a song title or artists, you can make more complex requests. Ask Alexa for what you'd like based on your mood, genre, setting, and more:

  • "Play [artist 1], [artist2], and [artist 3]."
    • For example, "Play Adele, Beyoncé, and Taylor Swift."
  • "Play '90s music by Metallica, but not the high tempo songs."
  • "Play some songs that you may hear at a [genre] festival."
  • "Play music from the artists who headlined at [event] last year."
    • For example, "Play music from the artists who headlined at Coachella last year."
  • "Play [genre] music that’s best for [activity]."
    • For example, "Play rock music that's best for working out."
  • "Play the artist who won album of the year at the Grammys's."

Ask Alexa to play the radio:

  • "Play [radio station name]."
  • "Play a [genre] radio station from [location]."
    • For example, "Play a radio station from San Francisco."
  • "Play [radio frequency] [AM or FM]."

Ask Alexa to recommend music and radio stations:

  • "Recommend a [genre] to listen to while doing [activity]."
    • For example, "Recommend rock music to listen to while cleaning the house."
  • "Recommend [mood] music for me."
    • For example, you can ask for rainy day, uplifting, sad, or happy songs.
  • "Who are some artists like [artist name]?"
  • "Recommend a [genre] radio station. "
    • For example, you can ask for sports, local, or live news radio stations.
    • "Play the second one" (After Alexa suggests options).

Search for and play music by lyrics, artists, movies, TV shows, and more:

  • "What is the main theme song in [movie, TV show, podcast]?"
  • "What is the song that goes [lyrics]?"
  • "What was the song in [movie name]?"
  • "Who headlined at [event] last year?"
  • "What are some radio stations in my area?"

Ask Alexa to play music you've listened to previously.

  • "Play my top artist."
  • "What did I listen to earlier this morning?"
  • "What did I play on Spotify?"
  • "What did I hear this week?"
  • "What are the artists that I heard most recently?"
  • "Recap my listening history for this week."
  • "What was that song by [artist] I was listening to earlier?"
  • "What songs did I listen to in [playlist] yesterday?"

Ask Alexa About Your Listening History

Alexa+ gives you insights into your household listening habits and patterns on Alexa over the last 30 days, including music, podcasts, radio, and audiobooks.

  • "What is my top [artist, songs, playlists, station, albums, audiobooks, or podcast]?"
  • "What is my top [artist, songs, playlists, station, albums, audiobooks, or podcast] today?"
  • "What is my top song from [artist, album, or playlist] ?"
  • "How many times have I listened to [artist, songs, playlist, station, album] this week?"
  • "What are my top [number] [ artist ] albums?"
  • "How many times did I listen to [artist]? "
