Light Indicators for Alexa+ on Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio (2025 release)

The visual indicators on your Echo device communicate various device statuses and interactions. Understanding these indicators can help you better use your device and troubleshoot any issues.

Note: You can ask Alexa about the light indicators you see.

Communication Indicator

A green light comes on when you are receiving an incoming call or in an active call.

Do Not Disturb Indicator

When Do Not Disturb Feature is on, a purple light will show briefly when Alexa finishes speaking.

Listening Indicator

A pair of pulsing blue lights on the left and right side of the light ring means that Alexa is listening. The pulse matches your voice - wider pulses for louder speech, shorter pulses for softer speech.

Notification Indicator

A yellow light comes on when you have a pending or unread notification.

Microphones Indicator

When the microphones on/off button is pressed, the button will show a red light and the light ring will display a temporary red light. Press the button again to turn on the device microphones and the red light will disappear.

Responding Indicator

When Alexa is speaking, a blue pulsing light will come on at the bottom of the light ring. The pulsing matches Alexa's voice - wider pulses for louder speech, shorter pulses for softer speech.

Thinking Indicator

When Alexa is thinking or processing your request, a blue light will come on that moves through the light ring from the bottom to the top of the device.
