Manage Smart Home Devices with the Widget on iOS

Control your favorite smart home devices directly from the home screen of your iOS device. The Alexa Smart Home widget lets you quickly access and control your most-used smart home devices without opening the Alexa app.

Note: You need iOS 18 or later, the latest Alexa app, and at least one connected smart light, switch, plug, lock, or camera.

Choose from different sizes for your Alexa Smart Home widget. Pick between two sizes on your iPhone or choose between three sizes on your iPad.

To add the widget:

  1. Press and hold the home screen on your iOS device.
  2. Select the Plus "+" (iOS 18) or Edit (iOS 26) button in the top-left corner.
  3. Search for Alexa or scroll to find the Alexa Smart Home widget.
  4. Choose your preferred widget size by swiping left or right and then select Add Widget.

The widget automatically shows your favorite devices. When you update your Favorites list, the widget updates too.

To customize your widget, press and hold it to start editing. Change the size of your device tiles and pick which devices to show instead of using your Favorites list.

Using the widget

  • Toggle a device tile to turn it on or off.
  • The status of your device refreshes automatically every 30 minutes. You can see the time the widget refreshed at the bottom-left corner and manually refresh states by selecting the refresh button.
  • Select camera tiles to review live feeds in the Alexa app.
