Summarize Your Notebooks or Refine Your Writing on Kindle Scribe

Use GenAI to summarize or refine your handwritten notes.

Note: The Summarize your notebooks and Refine your writing features are available on Kindle Scribe only. To summarize or refine content, you need to connect your device to the Internet.

These features are currently available to users in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, and Australia.

The summarization and refine writing features work on content written in English and Candian French.

To summarize your notes or refine your writing:
  1. Open a notebook.
  2. Select the GenAI icon Generative Artificial Intelligence icon in the top toolbar, then select Summarize or Refine writing.
  3. If you select Summarize, select Summarize current page or Summarize the entire notebook, then select Start.
    If you select Refine writing, select Refine current page or Refine the entire notebook, then select Start.

If your page or notebook has 25 or less words, you get a message that says that GenAI can't process the summarization.

You can summarize up to 15 pages and refine up to 10 pages of handwritten notes.

If your notebook contains more pages than GenAI can process at once, an error message shows when selecting Summarize or Refine the entire notebook.

You can customize your summary by choosing its legth, tone, and font.

To choose specific pages to summarize or to refine writing:
  1. Select the multipage icon Multipage icon in the top toolbar and long-press on a page to open the multi-select view. While in multi-select view, all the pages that you select show a check mark in their top-left corner.
  2. Select the AI Tools option in the top ribbon, then select Summarize or Refine writing.
  3. If you select Summarize, select Summarize selected pages or Summarize the entire notebook, then select Start.
    If you select Refine writing, select Refine selected pages or Refine the entire notebook, then select Start.
You can select Cancel instead of Start to go back and start again.

While GenAI is processing the notes, a loading screen appears for a few seconds. Larger notebooks or newly created notebooks may take longer to process as they may need to sync to the cloud.

You get a preview of the page (or pages) generated once your summary or your refined notes are ready. If the generated content runs over more than one page, use the slider on the right side of the page to scroll down.

Select Customize to adjust the font, the font size, and the line spacing.

Select Add to Notebook to insert your summary or refined pages as the first pages or as the last pages in the notebook.

To discard the summarization or refined pages before adding them to the notebook, select the X at the top right of the page. Then confirm that you want to cancel the generation.

Summarization and refined pages have the same properties as regular handwritten notes. You can delete, use the lasso select and all the options in the writing toolbar, and edit them manually.

The feature doesn't support some tables or diagrams and can’t summarize or refine them.
