Smart Home Devices Aren't Working with Echo Hub
Try these troubleshooting steps if devices don't connect, or are unresponsive.
Echo Hub doesn't connect with all of your smart home devices:
- Ensure all of your devices are connected to Alexa. Check with the Alexa app, and with the manufacturer's app.
- Check that all of your devices connect to Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or a Smart Home hub.
- Check that your smart home devices are on. If a device is battery-operated, try inserting fresh batteries.
- Make sure your Echo Hub and the Alexa app have the latest software version.
- If your smart home device uses an Alexa skill:
- Try controlling your device with the manufacturer's app. It might help to reconnect the device to Alexa. Then, in the Alexa app, remove the skill and then add it again.
- Otherwise, check the device's internet connection in the manufacturer's app. If neither of these steps work, try resetting your smart home device.
Your smart home device is unresponsive, or shows the incorrect state:
- To refresh the status of your smart home device, select the device's tile on your Echo Hub. If a device shows no state or is unresponsive, it's not communicating its state to the Echo Hub. Most devices refresh their state information every minute or so, while some devices refresh after several minutes.
- On the Echo Hub, select the device's tile to force an information refresh.
- Check the device state on the device or manufacturer app, and make sure it connects to the Alexa app.
- If the device still shows as unresponsive, consult manufacturer instructions.
Echo Hub doesn't have tiles for some smart home devices:
Some smart home devices and scenes don't yet have tiles on Echo Hub. However, you can still use the device by voice, or as part of a routine, or to receive announcements from them.
These device types don’t yet have device tiles:
- Temperature sensors
- Motion sensors
- Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
- Water leak detectors
- Music systems, including speakers
- Garage door openers and gates
- Ring Intercom Locks
- Printers
- Trackers
- Network hardware
- Remotes
Note: Some Alexa-compatible devices don't provide functions that the Echo Hub is designed to manage. Such devices include mobile phones, tablets, laptops, clocks, or smart watches.
