AVOID PROLONGED LISTENING AT HIGH VOLUME. Prolonged listening of the player at high volume can damage the ear of the user. To prevent possible hearing damage, users should not listen at high volume levels for long periods.

Maintaining Your Device

DO NOT GET WET.

Do not use or permit anyone to use your device or its accessories in rain, or near sinks or other wet or highly humid locations. Take care to ensure that no food or liquid is spilled on the device or its accessories. If your device or adaptor does get wet, carefully unplug all cables without getting your hands wet, and wait for the device and adaptor to dry completely before plugging them in again. Do not turn on your device if it is wet.

If it was already wet when on, immediately turn off your device and wait for it to dry before turning it back on. Do not attempt to dry your device or its accessories with an external heat source, such as a microwave oven or hair dryer. If the device or adaptor appear damaged, discontinue use immediately. To avoid risk of electric shock, do not touch your device or any wires connected to your device during a lightning storm while your device is charging.

Only handle your device with clean hands. Clean the screen with a soft cloth; be careful not to wipe it with anything abrasive. When carrying your device in a bag or briefcase, keep a cover on to avoid scratches.

Do not leave your device near any heat sources such as space heaters, heater vents, radiators, stoves, or other things that produce heat. Your device may get warm during normal use. To reduce the effect of the warming, place your device on a heat resistant surface.

Don't expose your device or its accessories to steam or extreme heat or cold. For example, don't leave it in your car in sub-zero or high-heat conditions.

Use of third-party accessories may impact your device's performance. In limited circumstances, use of third-party accessories may void your device's limited warranty. Read all safety instructions for any accessories before using with your device.

Power Adapter Safety

EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN USING THE POWER ADAPTOR. The Fire Tablet is shipped with an AC adaptor. Parents should not permit children to connect or handle the AC Adaptor or USB cable until they are old enough to do so safely. The Fire Tablet should only be charged using the AC adaptor and USB cable included with the device.

To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock when using the AC adapter, carefully follow these instructions:

  • Do not force the adapter into a power outlet.
  • Do not expose adapter or cable to liquids.
  • If the adapter or cable appears damaged, discontinue use immediately.
  • Do not plug multiple electric devices into the same wall socket. Overloading a socket can cause it to overheat and may result in a fire.
  • Power adapter designed only for use with the device.

An AC adapter with the included cable could present a strangulation hazard. Keep out of reach of young children.

Other Safety Considerations

WATCH FOR HEALTH RISKS FROM FLASHING LIGHTS OR LIGHT PATTERNS. A small percentage of people may be susceptible to blackouts or seizures (even if they have never had one before) when exposed to flashing lights or light patterns such as when playing games or watching video. If you have experienced seizures or blackouts or have a family history of such occurrences, you should consult a physician before playing games or watching videos. If you experience headaches, blackouts, seizures, convulsions, eye or muscle twitching, loss of awareness, involuntary movement, disorientation, or other discomfort discontinue use of the device and consult a physician. To reduce the risk of these symptoms, ensure that you avoid prolonged use, hold the device some distance from the eyes, and take frequent breaks.

AVOID REPETITIVE USE. Engaging in repetitive motions such as pressing keys or playing some games may cause you to experience occasional discomfort in your hands, arms, shoulders, neck, or other parts of your body.

USE CAUTION WHEN OPERATING VEHICLES. Using your device while operating a vehicle is not recommended and may be prohibited or restricted in some areas. If you are in an area where using your device while operating a vehicle is allowed, always give full attention to the operation of the vehicle and stop using your device if it becomes a distraction.

If you enable location services, your device will transmit location information to applications that request such information, and those applications may share such information with third parties. The location data, which will be used to provide features such as navigation in maps, may be unavailable, inaccurate or incomplete. When using applications with location services, be sure to visually confirm that any instructions are consistent with what you see before following them. Pay attention to road conditions, closures, traffic, and all other factors that may impact your safety.

USE CAUTION AROUND PACEMAKERS AND SIMILAR MEDICAL DEVICES. Personal medical devices, such as pacemakers, may be sensitive to magnetic and electromagnetic fields. Since the device and certain accessories contain magnets and emit electromagnetic fields, they should be kept at least 6 inches (approximately 15 cm) from any personal medical device. If any interference is observed, consult with a physician before resuming use. Items with magnetically-stored data, such as credit cards and hard drives, may also be sensitive to magnetic or electromagnetic fields, and should not be placed near these products.

Parents should monitor duration of use and volume levels to ensure appropriate use by children.

Wireless Safety and Compliance

Turn your wireless connection off in areas where wireless use is forbidden or when it may cause interference or danger. Some specific situations are described below. In general, you should not use your device with your wireless connection turned on any place you are not allowed to use a cellular device.

Turn Off Wireless When Flying

To prevent possible interference with aircraft systems, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration regulations and many other aviation agencies require you to have permission from a crewmember to use your device's wireless service.

Using Your Device Around Other Electronic Devices

Your device generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency (RF) energy and, if not used in accordance with its instructions, may cause interference to radio communications and electronic equipment. External RF signals may affect improperly installed or inadequately shielded electronic operating systems, entertainment systems, and personal medical devices. While most modern electronic equipment is shielded from external RF signals, if in doubt, check with the manufacturer. For personal medical devices (such as pacemakers and hearing aids), consult with your physician or the manufacturer to determine if they are adequately shielded from external RF signals.

Steps to Minimize Interference

If your device causes interference to radio or television reception (which you can determine by powering your device on and off), you can try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: reorient or relocate the receiving antenna for the radio or television; increase the separation between the radio or television and your device; connect equipment and receivers to different power sockets; or consult the radio or television manufacturer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

Watch for Signs

There are some places where RF signals could constitute a hazard, such as health care facilities, and construction sites. If you are not sure, look around for signs indicating that two-way radios or cell phones should be turned off.

In addition, turn off and do not charge your device if you are in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere, as sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire. Such areas are usually, but not always, clearly identified, and include areas where you would normally be advised to turn off your vehicle engine.
