Safety & Compliance Information for Echo Buds (2nd generation)

IMPORTANT PRODUCT INFORMATION

Use Responsibly. Read all instructions and safety information before use.

FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, OR OTHER INJURY OR DAMAGE.

WATCH FOR SMALL PARTS. Your Echo Buds and accessories may present a choking hazard to small children. Keep them out of reach of small children.

Battery Safety

HANDLE WITH CARE. Your earbuds and charging case contain rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and should be replaced only by a qualified service provider. Do not disassemble, open, crush, bend, deform, puncture, shred or attempt to access the batteries. Do not modify or remanufacture the batteries, attempt to insert foreign objects into the batteries, or immerse or expose them to water or other liquids, expose to fire, explosion or other hazard. Only use the batteries for the system in which they are specified. Use of an unqualified battery or charger may present a risk of fire, explosion, leakage or other hazard. Do not short-circuit a battery or allow metallic conductive objects to come into contact with battery terminals.

Avoid dropping the earbuds or the charging case. If the earbuds or the charging case are dropped, especially on a hard surface, and the user suspects damage, do not attempt to repair and discontinue use. Contact Amazon Customer Service for assistance.

Your earbuds should only be charged using the charging case. The charging case uses the USB-C cable provided and a USB charger or USB port that is compliant with safety standards, such as IEC 62368.

For models that support use of a wireless charger, ensure there are no metallic or magnetic foreign objects on the charger (such as coins, jewellery, metallic cases, keys, bank cards or other items) when charging. Please only charge with Qi-certified wireless charging pads. In limited circumstances, use of third-party accessories may void your device's limited warranty. Read all safety instructions for any accessories before using with your device. It is normal for your device and charger to become warm while charging. If your device feels too warm to use after charging, wait until it cools down.

Headphone Safety

AVOID PROLONGED LISTENING AT HIGH VOLUME. Prolonged listening of the player at high volume can damage the ear of the user. To prevent possible hearing damage, users should not listen at high volume levels for long periods.

Water Protection

Your earbuds and charging case are not waterproof and should not be immersed in water or other liquids. Your earbuds are sweat resistant and have been tested to comply with IEC 60529 IPX4. Your earbuds may experience temporary effects such as muffled audio from exposure to water. The charging case is not water resistant and should not be exposed to water or other liquids.

If your earbuds are exposed to light rain or sweat, or if your charging case accidentally gets wet, follow these instructions:

  • Wipe the affected item with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Allow the affected item to fully dry in a well ventilated area before using. Do not attempt to dry your earbuds or charging case with an external heat source (such as a microwave, oven, or hair dryer).
  • Do not charge your earbuds until they have dried fully. Failure to properly dry your earbuds may overtime lead to compromised performance or corrosion of some components.
  • Do not intentionally immerse your earbuds or charging case in water or expose them to seawater, salt water, chlorinated water, or other liquids (such as beverages).
  • Do not expose your earbuds or charging case to pressurized water, high velocity water, soapy water, or extremely humid conditions (such as a steam room).
  • Do not spill any food, oil, lotion, or other abrasive substances on your earbuds or charging case.

If your earbuds are dropped or otherwise damaged, they may be compromised when exposed to water splashes or sweat.

Cleaning and Handling Instructions; Skin Irritation

Clean your earbuds and charging case with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use water, chemicals, or abrasive materials. Remove any debris, such as earwax, that accumulates inside the ear tip area with a clean, dry, soft-bristled brush.

Prolonged use or improper maintenance of your earbuds may lead to skin irritation, ear infections, or injury. If skin, hearing or other problems develop, discontinue use of your earbuds immediately and consult a physician. To reduce the risk of electrostatic discharge upon contact with your earbuds or charging case, avoid such contact in extremely dry conditions.

Prolonged use or improper maintenance of Echo Buds may contribute to skin irritation or allergies in some users. Individuals with skin sensitivities, including to copper, may be more likely to experience irritation from wearable devices. If skin irritation, allergies, redness, swelling, or other problems develop, remove and discontinue use of your Echo Buds immediately and consult a physician.

Do not expose your earbuds or the charging case to extreme heat or cold. Store the earbuds and the charging case in a location where temperatures remain within the storage temperature ranges set forth in this guide. The earbuds, charging case, and the included accessories are designed to function within the operating temperature ratings set forth in this guide. If it is too hot or too cold, the earbuds and charging case may not turn on, charge, or function properly until they have warmed or cooled, as the case may be, to within the applicable temperature ratings.

Keep the earbuds, charging case, and cables in a well-ventilated area and away from heat sources, especially when in use or charging. Do not wear your earbuds in a way that impedes the earbuds' ventilation, such as sleeping with the earbuds or covering them with ear muffs. If the earbuds become warm, take them off immediately and place them on a surface that is at room temperature.

Warning Against Use While Driving

Use caution when using your Echo Buds or Alexa while engaging in any activity that requires your full attention or ability to hear external sounds. Using earbuds while operating a vehicle is illegal in some areas. Be aware of and comply with all applicable laws regarding use of earbuds and electronic devices when operating machinery, driving or engaging in other activities.

Compliance Markings

Certification and other compliance markings for the earbuds and charging case are located on the charging case, in the user guide included with the product or on the packaging.

Using Your Device Around Other Electronic Devices

Your Echo Buds generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency (RF) energy and, if not used in accordance with its instructions, may cause interference to radio communications and electronic equipment. External RF signals may affect improperly installed or inadequately shielded electronic operating systems, entertainment systems, and personal medical devices. While most modern electronic equipment is shielded from external RF signals, if in doubt, check with the manufacturer. For personal medical devices (such as pacemakers and hearing aids), consult with your physician or the manufacturer to determine if they are adequately shielded from external RF signals. Your charging case also contains magnets. These electromagnetic fields and magnets may interfere with pacemakers, defibrillators, or other medical devices. Maintain a safe distance of separation between your medical device and the charging case. Consult your physician and medical device manufacturer for information specific to your medical device. Stop using earbuds and charging case if you suspect they are interfering with your pacemaker, defibrillator, or any other medical device.

Wireless Safety and Compliance

Turn your wireless connection off in areas where wireless use is forbidden or when it may cause interference or danger. Some specific situations are described below. In general, you should not use your device with your wireless connection turned on any place you are not allowed to use a cellular device.

Turn Off Wireless When Flying

To prevent possible interference with aircraft systems, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration regulations and many other aviation agencies require you to have permission from a crewmember to use your device's wireless service.

Using Your Device Around Other Electronic Devices

Your device generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency (RF) energy and, if not used in accordance with its instructions, may cause interference to radio communications and electronic equipment.

Steps to Minimize Interference

If your device causes interference to radio or television reception (which you can determine by powering your device on and off), you can try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: reorient or relocate the receiving antenna for the radio or television; increase the separation between the radio or television and your device; connect equipment and receivers to different outlets; or consult the radio or television manufacturer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

Watch for Signs

There are some places where RF signals could constitute a hazard, such as health care facilities, and construction sites. If you are not sure, look around for signs indicating that two-way radios or cell phones should be turned off. In addition, turn off and do not charge your device if you are in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere, as sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire. Such areas are usually, but not always, clearly identified and include areas where you would normally be advised to turn off your vehicle engine.
