Optimize Storage on Your Fire Tablet

Retain storage by activating Auto Archive, or by removing or deleting unused content manually.

Auto Archive automatically archives non-Amazon apps infrequently used in the past 60 days and remove them from the home screen.
  1. Open Settings, select Storage, then Auto Archive.
  2. Slide the button to activate or deactivate the Auto Archive feature.
Push notifications inform you that the system archived some of your apps. You can tap the notification to view your list of archived apps and reinstall them.

To View Archived Apps:

  1. Open Settings and select Storage.
  2. Select Auto Archive.
Alternatively, open the Auto Archive app on the app Grid which offers a shortcut to the Auto Archive page.

To Reinstall Archived Apps:

  1. Open Settings, select Storage, then Auto Archive.
  2. Select Reinstall next to the archived app.
You can also reinstall archived apps from the App Store.

To Uninstall Archived Apps and Remove Their Data:

  1. Open Settings and select Storage.
  2. Select Auto Archive, then select the app name. Uninstall from the App info page.

To Manually Archive Amazon Content:

On Fire Tablets running FireOS 7:

  1. Open Settings and select Storage.
  2. Remove content that isn't being used by selecting Archive Now under Free Up Space.
You can instantly archive all the selected content eligible for archiving. You can select one, multiple, or all items to archive.

On Fire Tablets running FireOS 8:

  1. Open Settings, select Storage, then Internal Storage.
  2. Remove content that isn’t being used by selecting Archive Now to archive all the selected content eligible for archiving instantly. Alternatively, select Free Up Space to manage the content eligible for archiving manually.

Note: Amazon automatically saves Amazon-purchased content to the Cloud. Removing it from your device doesn’t delete it from your Amazon account.
