Help Loved Ones Set Up Their Echo Devices with a Screen Remotely

If loved ones have difficulty setting up an Echo Show, family members or caregivers can help with the setup remotely.

Note: Settings menu items for the Echo Hub and Echo Show 5 (all generations) may vary, and those devices will receive a software update soon.

If you're gifting an Echo Show and want to do remote setup, send the device to yourself first and choose the gift option at shipping to prevent the device from syncing to your account.

Before sending the Echo Show to your loved one, you can set it to connect to your loved one's Wi-Fi network.

First, plug in the device to start initial setup:

  1. Tap the screen and select a language.
  2. Select your Wi-Fi network name from the list of available networks.
  3. Enter the Wi-Fi password, then tap done in the bottom right corner.
  4. Type in your loved one's Amazon account email and password and tap Sign in at the bottom.
  5. Confirm the time zone and tap Continue to complete setup.

After setup is complete, use the following steps to save your loved one's Wi-Fi network:

  1. Say, "Go to Settings," or swipe down from the top of the Echo Show screen and select Settings.
  2. Select Device Options.
  3. Select Network.
  4. Scroll down and select Add a Network under Preferences.
  5. Type in the name of your loved one's network.
  6. Use the drop-down arrow under Security and select WPA/WPA2 PSK.
  7. Type in the password (case sensitive) under Wi-Fi Password.
  8. Select Save.

You can now unplug Echo Show, re-package it and send it to your loved one. When your loved one plugs in the power adapter, the Echo Show connects to the Wi-Fi network that you set. To complete setup, your loved one only needs to sign in to their Amazon account when prompted on the screen to register the device.
