Troubleshoot Issues with Your Fire Tablet microSD Card

If you formatted your microSD card and it still doesn't work, try these troubleshooting tips.

  • Make sure the microSD card is compatible with your device:
    • 5th & 6th Generation tablets: Supports up to 200 GB
    • 7th Generation tablets: Supports up to 256 GB
    • 8th & 9th Generation tablets: Supports up to 512 GB
    • 10th Generation tablets and newer: Supports up to 1 TB
  • Verify that the card is UHS or at least Class 4 or higher for non-UHS.
  • Verify that the microSD card is inserted correctly. Unmount (safely remove) and reinsert the microSD.
  • Confirm that the microSD card works on another device like; phone, or another tablet.
  • Try a different microSD card.
  • Fire tablet (running FireOS 6 and higher) can't install apps and games to a microSD card.
