What Do the Lights on Your Echo Speaker Mean?

The lights on your Echo speaker are how the device communicates its status.

Light Indicator Color Meaning
Yellow A slow yellow burst, every few seconds, means that Alexa has a message or notification. Say, "What are my notifications?" or "What are my messages?"
Cyan on blue

A cyan spotlight on a blue ring means that Alexa is listening.

The light ring glimmers briefly when Alexa has heard and is processing your request. A briefly glimmering blue light might also mean that the device is receiving a software update.

Teal blue A teal blue bar means that Alexa is ready for you to speak. This means that you can speak directly to Alexa without first saying the wake word.
Red

A solid red light means the microphone on/off button is pressed. That means the device microphone is disconnected and Alexa isn't listening. Press it again to turn on your microphone.

On Echo devices with a camera, a red light bar means that you're not sharing your video.

Spinning cyan

Slowly spinning teal and blue means that your device is starting up. If you haven't set up the device, the light turns orange when the device is ready for setup.

Note: The device may restart due to a software update. In that case, slowly spinning teal and blue means that your device is restarting after the update is complete.
Orange Your device is in setup mode, or is trying to connect to the Internet.
Green

A pulsing green light means that you're receiving a call on the device.

If the green light is spinning, then your device is on an active call or an active Drop In.

Purple

During initial device setup, purple shows if there are Wi-Fi issues.

When the Do Not Disturb feature is on, the light briefly shows purple after you make any request.

White

When you adjust the device volume, white lights show the volume levels.
