IR Extension Cables with Fire TV Cube

Use a supported IR extension cable to control equipment that's inside a closed cabinet or out of sight of your Fire TV Cube.

Your Fire TV Cube uses an internal IR blaster to control entertainment, such as set-top boxes or AV receivers. Your Fire TV Cube can control your equipment as long as the devices aren't out of sight.

If the equipment that you want to control is in a cabinet or otherwise obstructed, consider using an IR extension cable. IR extension cables let you emit IR signals to locations your Fire TV Cube can't reach.

Your Fire TV Cube supports most IR extension cables, as long as the cable:

  • Is an IR transmitter
  • Connects using a 3.5mm jack

An IR blaster style cable is recommended for the best experience.

To use an IR extension cable, plug the cable into the IR port on the back of your Fire TV Cube. Then, place the IR emitter on the same shelf as the devices you want to control. If you have devices on multiple shelves, place the IR emitter on the lowest shelf.

Note: After placing the IR emitter, set your Fire TV Cube to use its internal blaster:
  1. Go to Settings on your Fire TV Cube.
  2. Select Equipment Control.
  3. Select Manage Equipment.
  4. Select Advanced Settings.
  5. Select Volume & Power Buttons.
  6. Select Fire TV Cube.
