Turn On Captioning on Your Echo Devices with a Screen

You can use Closed Captioning or Alexa Captioning on your Echo Device with a Screen when available. Just say, "Turn on all captions."

Note: Settings menu items for the Echo Hub and Echo Show 5 (all generations) may vary, and those devices will receive a software update soon.

To turn on captions on your Alexa App or Echo devices with a screen:

  1. Say, "Go to Settings," or go to the device settings on your Echo Show:
    • If you're using Alexa+, select the Menu icon on your screen, and then select Settings.
    • If you're using the original Alexa, swipe down from the top of the screen and select Settings.
  2. Select Accessibility.
  3. Select Captioning.
  4. Check the boxes for the captioning settings you want to turn on:
    • All Captioning: Turns on all captioning options
    • Alexa Captioning: Turns on captioning for Alexa's responses
    • Closed Captioning: Tuns on captioning for video playback
    • Alexa Captioning: Turns on captioning for Alexa's responses

To manage your Captioning preferences including font style and size:

  1. Say, "Go to Settings," or go to the device settings on your Echo Show:
    • If you're using Alexa+, select the Menu icon on your screen, and then select Settings.
