Checking Wi-Fi Connectivity on Smart Home Devices

Try these steps to check the internet connection for your Alexa-compatible device or fix connectivity issues.

Tip: For third-party devices that use Wi-Fi and aren’t Matter certified, set up your device in the manufacturer’s app before connecting to Alexa. With some devices, you can link your Alexa account and your third-party device account in the manufacturer's app during setup. You can also connect Alexa by activating the related skill in the Alexa app as needed.

  1. Open the Alexa app .
  2. Open Devices .
  3. Select your device.
  4. Select the gear in the top right.
  5. Under Wi-Fi Network, verify that the correct Wi-Fi network is visible.
  6. If the Wi-Fi network listed is incorrect, select Change and follow the on-screen instructions.
    1. You can only change the Wi-Fi network settings in the Alexa app for Amazon and Matter devices.
  7. If the network listed is correct but you’re still experiencing issues, check that your router is working. To determine if your Echo device or your network is the problem, check the internet connection with another device.

Note: For connection issues with third-party devices that use Wi-Fi and aren’t Matter certified, try controlling your device with the manufacturer’s app. If you can control your device with the manufacturer’s app, but not with Alexa, reactivate the skill in the Alexa app. Otherwise, check your internet connection in the manufacturer’s app. In case these troubleshooting steps don't work, try resetting your Alexa device and smart home devices.
