Use Alexa to Read Your Kindle Books

Turn on Kindle Assistive Reader to read books with Alexa and control Alexa's reading with your voice.

Note: Kindle Assistive Reader isn’t available on Alexa+.

Kindle Assistive Reader is designed to support customers with disabilities to read Kindle books. Kindle Assistive Reader is available on all Alexa built-in devices and uses Alexa's underlying Text-to-Speech capabilities.

To turn on Kindle Assistive Reader, simply ask Alexa to read a book or turn it on in your Alexa app accessibility settings. For more information, go to Turn On Kindle Assistive Reader on Echo Devices with a Screen.

While Alexa reads, you can ask Alexa to do things like:

  • Read a specific Kindle book title
  • Share more information about the book being read
  • Pause, stop, or restart reading the book
  • Navigate through your book by chapters, or by time intervals
  • Slow down or speed up Alexa's reading speed
  • Set or cancel a timer for Alexa to stop reading
