Use TalkBack with the Kindle App on Android

Kindle Reading app on Android supports the TalkBack accessibility feature.

After enabling TalkBack, you can explore the Kindle Reading app with audio prompts from TalkBack. Audio support is also provided for books and other features.

Note: TalkBack is a feature developed by Google for the Android operating system. For more information about accessibility features on Android devices, visit Google's TalkBack help pages at https://support.google.com/talkback.
  1. Go to Settings on your Android device.
  2. Tap Accessibility, then tap TalkBack.
  3. Turn TalkBack on or off.
    After you turn on TalkBack, spoken feedback begins immediately.

Read continuously and have the pages turn automatically.

Swipe down then right to open the TalkBack menu. Then, choose "Read from focused item".

Pause or resume reading.

Tap once with two fingers.

Usually, this action refers to the next paragraph, but it can also be an image, a link, a math equation, or something else.

Go to the previous content element.

Swipe left using one finger.

Usually, this action refers to the previous paragraph, but it can also be an image, a link, a math equation, or something else.

Swipe left with two fingers.

Go to the previous page.

Swipe right with two fingers.

Open the Book Actions menu.

Double tap with one finger.

This option is only available when a book is open.

The Book Actions menu provides access to many things. This includes the close book button, the table of contents, search, notebook, reading settings, and more.

Select text.

Double tap and hold.

To select a specific word, first navigate by words and put focus on the word you want to select.

Navigate by characters.

Swipe up then down, or down then up. Continue until Characters is selected.

Navigate by words.

Swipe up then down, or down then up. Continue until Words is selected.

Navigate by lines.

Swipe up then down, or down then up. Continue until Lines is selected.

Navigate by headings.

Swipe up then down, or down then up. Continue until Headings is selected.

Headings and their levels are announced and navigable when heading tags are included in the eBook.
