Tap Controls on Echo Buds

Use tap controls to reduce noise, increase ambient sound, or pause and resume music.

Echo Buds (2019 release, 1st gen)

Touch Control

Result

Double tap.

Switch between Bose Noise Reduction and Passthrough.

Press and hold.

Access Google Assistant and Siri.

Take out one (or both) buds.

Pause music.

Put one (or both) buds in.

Music resumes.

Echo Buds (2021 release, 2nd gen)

Touch Control

Result

Single tap.

Play or pause music.

Double tap.

  • Next song.
  • Answer/end a call.

Triple tap.

Previous song.

Long hold.

  • Switch between Active Noise Cancellation and Passthrough.
  • Reject a call.

Take out one (or both) buds.

Pause music.

Put one (or both) buds in.

Music resumes.
Note: With Echo Buds (2021 release, 2nd gen), you can customize the long hold touch control in the Alexa app for the following actions:
  • Access Google Assistant and Siri.
  • Volume up/volume down.
  • Mute microphones.
