Use the Customizable Button on Your Fire TV Remote

The customizable button on your remote is used to perform shortcuts to do things like quickly access a favorite app and more.

Note: This is only applicable for following remotes:
  • Fire TV Remote (2026 Release)
  • Alexa Voice Remote Pro

To be able to use the customizable button:

  • Fire TV Remote must be paired with a compatible device.
  • Fire TV Remote must be within 30 ft (10 m) of the paired device.
  • The paired device must be on.

Note: The customizable buttons shortcuts aren't available in Child profiles.

To set up the customizable button shortcuts on your compatible Fire TV remote:

  • 1
  • 2
  • Star

Note: For Echo Show devices, you can find Fire TV Settings in your Echo Show Settings.
  1. Press and hold the desired customizable button for five seconds. You can also go to your remote in the Fire TV Settings and select the desired button.
    A menu appears on-screen showing suggested actions based on your recent activity.
  2. Select a suggested app or other action.
An on-screen notification confirms that the new shortcut has been created.

To change the assigned shortcut, repeat these steps with the button that you want to update.
