Use the Customizable Buttons on Your Alexa Voice Remote Pro

The customizable buttons on your remote are shortcuts to do things like quickly access a favorite app, give an Alexa voice command, and more.

To be able to use the customizable buttons:

  • Alexa Voice Remote Pro must be paired with a compatible device.
  • Alexa Voice Remote Pro must be within 30 ft (10 m) of the paired device.
  • The paired device must be on.
    • Fire TV Smart TVs: Activate the setting Voice Commands when TV Screen is Off to use the feature while the TV screen is off.
    • Fire TV Sticks: Make sure that the power cable is connected to an outlet with the provided power adapter, and not to a USB port on the TV. This lets the customizable buttons work while the TV is off.
    • Echo Shows: Make sure that the power cable is connected to the device and the power adapter is connected to an outlet.

Note: The customizable buttons shortcuts aren't available in Child profiles.

To set up the customizable button shortcuts on Alexa Voice Remote Pro:

Note: For Echo Show devices, you can find Fire TV Settings in your Echo Show Settings.
  1. Press and hold the desired customizable button (labeled 1 and 2) for five seconds. You can also go to your remote in the Fire TV Settings and select the desired button.
A personalized side panel appears on-screen. The panel shows suggested actions based on your recent activity, and shortcuts for your last three voice commands.
  2. Select a suggested app, Alexa voice command, or More Actions in the side panel. For More Actions, select the category and choose a shortcut from the on-screen list.
An on-screen notification confirms that the new shortcut has been created.

To change the assigned shortcut, repeat these steps with the button that you want to update.
