What Is the Fire TV Ambient Experience?
The Fire TV Ambient Experience transforms a TV into an Alexa-powered smart display when not streaming.
- Select Settings

- If available, the Ambient Experience option appears in the menu.

Play audio. |
If audio is playing when Ambient Experience is active, a Now Playing indicator appears on the screen. You can use the remote to pause the music or say, "Pause music." To open the full-screen audio experience, select the audio player with the remote. To return to the Ambient Experience, say, "Return to Ambient," or short-press the power button. |
Activate and Deactivate the Ambient Experience
You can activate the Ambient Experience in several ways:
- Alexa Voice button: Short press the Alexa Voice button
on the remote to open the Alexa Shortcuts Panel. Select the Ambient tile to start the Ambient Experience.
- Home button: Press and hold the Home
button on the remote to open the Quick Settings menu. Select the Ambient tile to start the Ambient Experience.
- Voice: Say, "Go to Ambient Experience."
- Schedule or Routine: Set up Routines for Ambient Experience in the Alexa mobile app. The Ambient Experience Advanced Settings include the ability to set the hours when Ambient Experience is available.
- Idle timeout: Ambient Experience replaces the default screensaver experience and starts after the screensaver advertisements.
Ambient Experience deactivates after:
- You press the Home button
.
- You press and hold the Alexa Voice button
and give a voice command like, "Go Home" or "Open Prime Video."
- 15 minutes of inactivity on Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation or after a few minutes of no user presence detected in room.
- A routine deactivates it.
Adjust Start and Timeout for Ambient Experience
You can adjust when Ambient Experience starts and how long it stays active.
If you haven't set a duration, the Ambient Experience starts after 5 minutes of inactivity and times out after a few minutes of no motion detected in the room.
To adjust start and timeout from Ambient Experience screen:
- Press the Menu button
on your remote.
- Select Ambient Preferences.
- Select Advanced Settings.
- Select:
- Ambient Experience Start to adjust how long the device must be inactive before the Ambient Experience launches automatically.
- Ambient Experience Timeout to adjust how long the device must be inactive before the Ambient Experience times out.
- Select the new duration.
To adjust start and timeout from Fire TV Home screen:
- Go to Settings
on your Fire TV.
- Select Display & Audio.
- Select Ambient Experience.
- Select Ambient Preferences.
- Select Advanced Settings.
- Select:
- Ambient Experience Start to adjust how long the device must be inactive before the Ambient Experience launches automatically.
- Ambient Experience Timeout to adjust how long the device must be inactive before the Ambient Experience times out.
- Select the new duration.
