Learn to Use Alexa with Fire TV
Perform specific actions, and watch and listen to content on your Fire TV device with Alexa.
Compatible devices allow you to use your voice to activate Alexa.
Using Your Voice Remote
To interact with Alexa, hold down the Alexa Voice button on your remote and talk to Alexa. You can say things like:
- "Open [app name]."
- "Find [movie title]."
- "Search for action movies."
- "Look for racing game apps."
- "Play some study music."
Alexa gives helpful information about topics related to your viewing or listening content and can also do things like control playback.
Many features open in a separate display on your TV screen. To return to the previous screen, press the Back button or Home button
on your Fire TV remote.
Control Fire TV Devices with a Compatible Alexa-enabled Device
You can link a compatible Alexa-enabled device to your Fire TV for more voice control options. Linking your devices lets you use your Alexa device to do things like search for content or control playback on your Fire TV. Use the Alexa app to link your devices.
Some Fire TV devices have Alexa built-in for hands-free voice control. For the best experience, make sure that there's nothing blocking the Alexa microphones on your device.
Manage Alexa Features and Privacy
To manage settings for most Alexa features, use the Alexa app on your compatible mobile device.
Fire TV devices with hands-free Alexa come equipped with a microphone off button. When you press the Microphone On/Off button, the power to the microphones disconnects and a dedicated red light turns on.
After the microphones are off, your device can't record and stream audio to the cloud, even when you say the wake word. Your device still responds to requests you make through your Voice Remote.
