Guide to VoiceView Gestures on Your Kindle

Use VoiceView gestures to navigate a supported Kindle and listen to Kindle books and other Kindle content over a compatible Bluetooth audio device.

Identify Your Kindle E-Reader

Note: VoiceView over Bluetooth only reads in English language. If your device is set to a different language, you'll be prompted to switch your device language to English. VoiceView does not support music or audiobook files.

Action Gesture
Explore menus and items Drag a finger over each item on the screen.
Decrease granularity Swipe down then up using a single motion.
Go to next item by granularity Swipe down using one finger.
Go to previous item by granularity Swipe up using one finger.
Go to the next item Swipe right using a finger.
Go to the next page Swipe left with two fingers.
Go to the previous item Swipe left using a finger.
Go to the previous page Swipe right with two fingers.
Hear additional information about an item Double tap on the item and hold for one second. After you hear a tone, drag your finger over the pop-up menu to navigate.
Increase granularity Swipe up then down using a single motion.
Open an item Select the item, and then double tap anywhere on the screen. If the item doesn't open, try slowing down or speeding up your tapping speed.
Pair a new Bluetooth audio device

Press the power button 3 times to initiate the search for a new Bluetooth audio device.

Hold two fingers on screen to select the Bluetooth audio device.

Pause VoiceView while reading Tap on the screen with two fingers at the same time. To resume, use the Start Reading gesture (swipe down and to the right in an "L" shape).
Re-enable VoiceView if turned off or in Airplane mode Press the power button 3 times to reconnect to a previously Bluetooth audio device.
Scroll up or down Swipe up or down with two fingers.
Note: This feature only works when you can scroll on the screen.
Show reading toolbar While reading, double-tap the screen to show the reading toolbar.
Start reading When you open a book, VoiceView begins reading the book and automatically turns the pages. If the reading stops and you need to start it again, swipe down and to the right with one finger (an "L" shape). This will initiate continuous reading again.
Type on the keyboard Move a finger slowly over the keys. When you hear the letter you want to select, lift your finger from the keyboard to add that letter.
