Manage Your Lost or Stolen Device

With Manage Your Device, you can manage your Fire tablet or Fire phone remotely. These features may be useful if you lose your device.

Important

  • Fire tablets (running FireOS 3.2.5 or later) and Fire phones support Manage Your Device features.
  • Contact your local law enforcement for assistance and to report a stolen device. Don’t attempt to get the stolen device yourself.
  • Contact Amazon Customer Support for assistance if you own a device that isn’t compatible with Manage Your Device features.
  • These features only work when activated.
  • Your device must be on and connected to a wireless network for these features to work.

Turn On Manage Your Device

To use your device remotely, turn on location-based services and Manage Your Device features. You can turn on Location Services by going to Settings. A location icon appears in the upper right corner of your device (near the battery life icon).

  • To activate Manage Your Device on Fire tablets:
    • Open Quick Settings, and select Device / Device Options and Find My Kindle / Find Your Tablet.
  • To activate Manage Your Device on Fire phone:
    • Open Quick Actions, visit Settings, go to Location Services and select Enable Find Your Phone or Find Your Phone.

Manage Your Device Features

If your device is lost or stolen, you can locate, deregister, or reset your device remotely.

  1. Go to Manage Your Content and Devices page.
  2. From Devices, select a device that supports Manage Your Device.
  3. Select from the following features:
    • Deregister - You can no longer access your content through any Amazon application on the device or make purchases on the deregistered device. Personal information such as photos and side-loaded documents remain on the device.

Note: You can use this option when you want to switch Amazon accounts on a device within a household.

    • Remote Alarm - Activates an alarm on your device. The alarm plays on the device for two minutes or until it's dismissed when your device is located.
    • Find My Device - Find your device's approximate location on the map generated within the Manage Your Content and Devices page. You receive an email from Amazon on the status of your device's location within three days.

Important: The map and location information used in the Manage Your Device feature may be inaccurate or unavailable depending on several external factors. Don't use this feature in situations where precise location information is needed.

    • Remote Lock - Sets your device’s lock screen password to protect the data. If you have already set up your lock screen password, this feature adds another layer of security/authentication on top of it. Your device will remain locked until the next time you turn it on.
    • Remote Factory Reset - Resets your device to its default factory settings. After you reset your device and your personal information, Amazon account information and the downloaded content are removed from your device. You can access your past purchases from Amazon via the Cloud. Additionally, download your content to other compatible device registered to your account.
